State Highway Road Construction 3/18 to 3/24

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjoining areas from March 18, 2018 to March 24, 2018.


Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 25 to 21
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers for vegetation management.
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 19-22.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s)321.7 to 322.4
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers for vegetation management.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. 

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 32.5 to 33.9
Description:  Southbound right lane closure for utility work. 
Work Schedule: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Monday through Friday through Thursday, March 22.


SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: Beginning 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, crews will intermittently stop traffic in both directions to deliver and set four girders along SR 8, one at a time. This work is part of the Wildcat Creek Fish Barrier Removal Project, which eliminates two existing culverts and replaces them with four bridges. For each girder delivery, traffic will be stopped in both directions for up to 15 minutes. After each girder has been placed, traffic will be reopened before the start of the subsequent girder placement.
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 21.

Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

  • Pay attention – Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
  • Leave room between you and the car ahead of you – Most work zone accidents involve someone
  •  running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively – be aware of what is happening around you.
  • Merge before you reach the work zone.
  • Don’t use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
