Results from Mason County Track & Field Jamboree; SHS Baseball Wins, Softball Falls; NM Soccer Wins; Baseball loses

The three Mason County high school track and field teams competed against each other Friday in the Mason County Jamboree at North Mason’s Phil Pugh Stadium.

Here are the top finishers in each event:

Mary M. Knight’s Ian Frost won the boys’ discus with a season record throw of 153 feet 7 inches – 40 feet further than Shelton’s Kyle McGregor who was 2nd.

The girls’ discus went to North Mason’s Lily Campbell followed by Shelton’s McKenzie Salazar-Fox.

Shelton’s Troy Goodwin won the boys’ 100 meters followed by North Mason’s Braedent Kemmer. Mary M. Knight’s Corbin Thompson placed 11th.

The girls’ 100 meters went to Shelton’s Trinity Payment followed by team mates Austyne Cralle and Victoria Silverman and North Mason’s Natalie Carstensen.

Goodwin also took the boys’ 200 meters followed by the Bulldogs’ Austin Williams. The top Owl in the event was Cole Ruthruff who finished 8th.

The Bulldogs’ Carstensen won the girls’ 200 meters followed by team mate Olivia Kauahi, Shelton’s Miracle Horne, NM’s Michelle Swearingen and MMK’s Lisa Oppelt.

The Highclimbers’ Josiah Salazar-Fox won the boys’ 400 meters followed by North Mason’s Rees Smelcer.

The Bulldogs’ Kira Schwerzler won the girls’ 400 meters.

In the boys’ 800 meters, Shelton placed 1st and 2nd (Ethan Bursch and Brock Knowles) and Mary M. Knight’s Corbin Thompson was 3rd. Top runner in the event from Belfair was Joseph Denend who was 5th.

The girls’ 800 meters went to Aiden Gregg from Shelton followed by Savannah Knutson from North Mason.

Shelton took the top three spots in the boys’ 1500 meters (William Johnson, Brock Knowles and John Gerchak) followed by MMK’s Kaleb Riggs. Nathan Fjeld was the highest finisher from North Mason at 7th.

The girls’ 1500 meters was the same as the 800 meters with Gregg winning and Knutson 2nd.

Both boys’ hurdles (110-meter & 300-meter) went to Shelton’s Noah Manu.

In the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, Shelton’s Victoria Silverman was 1st. North Mason’s Isabella Porter was 2nd. Highclimber Kathy Shumante finished 3rd. And Mary M. Knight’s Lisa Oppelt was 4th. Porter won the 300-meter hurdles.

Shelton freshman Kyle McGregor took the boys’ shot put followed by Mary M. Knight’s Ian Frost and North Mason’s Grady Durbin.

Shelton took the top three spots in the girls’ shot put (McKenzie Salazer-Fox, Victoria Rodeback and Jazlin Warren). North Mason’s Roxanne Clegg was 4th.

In the boys’ javelin, North Mason took 1st (Brock Hadley) and 2nd (Miller Campbell) while Mary M. Knight’s Zack Thompson was 3rd and Shelton’s Kyle Hall was 4th.

The top three spots in the girls’ javelin went to North Mason’s Lily Campbell, Carli Durbin and Felicity Fowler.

The boys’ high jump went to Skyler Johnson from Shelton. Christopher Ramsy from North Mason was 2nd. Highclimber Malik Freeman was 3rd and Austin Fries from Mary M. Knight was 4th.

In the girls’ high jump, Mary M. Knight’s Kaylee Sowle won the event followed by Kamdan Nicklaus from Shelton and Felicity Fowler from North Mason.

North Mason’s Kyle Newton took the boys’ pole vault followed by Shelton’s Joseph Stitzel.

North Mason’s Braeden Kemmer won the boys’ long jump followed by Shelton’s Tyler Youngquist.

The girls’ long jump went to Mary M. Knight’s Kaylee Sowle followed by Shelton’s Trinity Payment and North Mason’s Olivia Kauahi.

Next action for Mary M. Knight is a meet in Raymond next Thursday.
North Mason hosts Port Townsend, Olympic and Coupeville next Wednesday.
Shelton hosts Capital in a South Sound Conference meet next Wednesday.

The Shelton baseball team made it three in a row Friday knocking off Elma 10 to 1. The Highclimbers are now 3-and-0 on the season. They open South Sound Conference play Tuesday at North Thurston.

The Shelton fast pitch softball team wasn’t able to stop Olympia Friday as the Bears beat the Highclimbers 17 to 2. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC broadcast the game.

Olympia took advantage of numerous fielding errors by Shelton to score eight runs in the second inning to break the game open. Taylor Rasler scored Shelton’s first run in the second inning and Alyssa Wilhite batted in Emily Morris in the fifth inning for the ‘Climbes’ second run. Shelton opens South Sound Conference play Monday at Central Kitsap.

The North Mason boys’ soccer team won a high scoring match at Silverdale Stadium Friday as the Bulldogs beat Olympic 8 to 7 for their first win of the season. The boys from Belfair are 1-1-and-1 on the season. They travel to Sequim Monday.

The North Mason baseball team lost at Olympic 2 to 0 Friday. The Bulldogs have lost their last four games and are 1-and-5 on the season. The boys from Belfair host Black Hills Monday.
