The Shelton boys’ basketball team’s season came to an end Tuesday at Clover Park High School as the Highclimbers were eliminated from the 2018 Class 3A West Central / Southwest District Basketball Tournament by Spanaway Lake 74 to 54. The game was broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
Shelton kept the game close in the first half. The Sentinels lead by as many as eight in the first quarter but were up 16-13 after one. Spanaway Lake went up by 12 in the second quarter but the ‘Climbers managed to get that down to nine at the half: 37-28. The third quarter was when the Sentinels started to pull away, leading by as many as 18 and up 53-39 heading into the fourth. The final quarter saw Spanaway Lake go up by 22 and Shelton wasn’t able to get much closer than 14 after that.
The Sentinels advance to Thursday’s elimination game against Wilson. Spanaway Lake was led by Divante Moffitt and Jordan Garner who each scored 24 points.
The Highclimbers were led in the loss by Ty Thompson who scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Tyler Auld added 13 points hitting four three-pointers. Travis Colbenson, the only senior eligible to play, had 8 points. Adam Goldsby, Casey Badillo-Brown and Zach Jonker each had 4 points. And Noah Benson hit a three. Jason Kenyon was limited due to foul trouble and didn’t score while Cole Forsman and Leander Blacketer also play but didn’t score.
Shelton finishes the season with a 9-and-14 record and was 1-and-2 in the District Tournament.
