Shelton Girls Season Ends with Loss to North Thurston

The Shelton girls’ basketball team’s season came to an end Friday as the Highclimbers lost to North Thurston 49 to 46 in the 2018 Class 3A West Central / Southwest District Tournament. MasonWebTV Powerd by HCC broadcast the back-and-forth game.

Shelton started slow falling behind by seven points in the first quarter but battled back to take a five point lead in the second. The Rams closed the gap to two at the half (24 to 22).

In the third quarter, the ‘Climbers increased their lead to eight before NT rallied again and take a three-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Rams took a six-point lead late in the final period. Shelton’s Jasmine Griffin cut that in half with a three-pointer and after two missed North Thurston free throw. The Highclimbers had one more possession to force overtime but Shelton was unable to get off a shot before time ran out.

The Rams got 21 points from Brooklyn Harn and 15 points from Rokki Brown to keep their season alive. North Thurston plays Timberline Monday.

Griffin and Kylind Powell each finished with 14 points in the ‘Climbers’ season ending loss. Kayla Gairns added 7 points. Jordyn Peterson, Lexi Moon and Decheiya Littlesun had 3 point each. And Katie Johnson hit a basket.

Shelton finishes the season 14-and-8.
