Strong winds late last month resulted in damage to Oakland Bay Marina in Shelton. The wind events on January 27th and January 30th damaged pilings and boat houses. Now the Port of Shelton, which owns the marina, has to replace four pilings – one of which snapped off during one of the storms. The Port’s Al Frey, Ned Wilson and Executive Director Wendy Smith showed the Port of Shelton Commission pictures of some of the damage Tuesday during their regular business meeting.
The Port Commissioners then declared an emergency in order to expedite repairs. However, the Port still needs permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Shelton as well as locating the appropriate 90-foot long pilings. Cost of these repairs will run at least $100,000. The Port does have insurance that should cover some of the damage.
