Registered voters in the Pioneer, Hood Canal, Southside and Mary M. Knight school districts, and the City of Shelton have been mailed ballots for the February 13th Special Election.
The City of Shelton is holding a primary election for four seats on the newly formed City Council. There are 15 candidates running for the four seats and voters will decide the top two to advance to the April 24th General Election. The Shelton Mason County Chamber of Commerce, Hood Canal Communications and MasonWebTV Powered by HCC hosted a candidates forum with the City Council Candidates on January 17th.
The candidates are Eric Onisko, Jason Coots and Jessie (Jess) Mosley for Council Member No. 4; Marilyn Vogler, Deidre Peterson, David C. Brown and Josh Johnson for Council Member No. 5; Steve Thompson, Charles Orthmann, Bailee Syrek, Sam Pettis and Joe Schmit for Council Member No. 6; and Bob Rogers, Tracy Moore and Mary Eagleson for Council Member No. 7.
Pioneer and Hood Canal school districts are asking voters to approve 30-year $30 Million bonds to construct a Co-Operative High School. This proposition would authorize the Districts to construct the county’s fourth high school. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC attended two information sessions on the concept. The first was a Mason County Commission briefing on January 8th:
The other was during the January 18th North Mason School Board meeting:
The Southside School District is asking voters to renew their educational enrichment levy to continue high quality academic programs not funded by the state. If approved, this four-year levy would tax property owners $3.55 per thousand of assessed value.
The Mary M. Knight School District is asking voters to approve a two-year educational enrichment levy. If approved, the levy would would tax property owners $3.08 per thousand of assessed value.
