Basketball: SHS Splits with CK

The Shelton girls’ basketball team knocked off Central Kitsap for the second time this season on Wednesday 51 to 44. The Lady Highclimbers improved to 14-and-3 overall, 8-and-3 in the South Sound Conference. The win also moves Shelton into a tie with Peninsula for third place in the standings. The ‘Climbers play the Seahawks Friday on the road. Shelton lost the first meeting with Peninsula by two points (55 to 53). A third place finish means a home play off game.

The Shelton boys’ basketball team was outscored 25 to 15 in the fourth quarter which allowed Central Kitsap to rally from eight point down and win 66 to 64 Wednesday. The Highclimbers drop to 7-and-11 on the season, 3-and-8 in the South Sound Conference. Shelton remains in sixth place in the standing and still has hold of the final playoff spot with three games left. The ‘Climbers host Peninsula Friday and MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast that game.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost to Sequim Tuesday 49 to 46. The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs to 7-and-10 on the season, 2-and-8 in the Olympic League. The girls from Belfair host league-leading North Kitsap Friday.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team lost at Sequim Tuesday 53 to 37. The Bulldogs are now 5-and-12 on the season, 2-and-8 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair travel to the league’s top team North Kitsap Friday.

The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team held Lake Quinault scoreless in the second quarter Tuesday and cruised to a 47 to 16 victory. The Owls had three players score in double figure lead by Isaiah Compton’s 12 points. Jason Shaw added 11. And Zach Thompson chipped in 10 and had five steals. The boys from Matlock are now 12-and-5 on the season, 5-and-2 in the 1B Coastal League. The MMK boys are tied with Oakville for second place in the standings. They travel to Wishkah Valley Friday. The Owls beat the Loggers by 52 points (70 to 18) on January 9th.
