The Shelton girls’ basketball team moved into a three-way tied for second place in the South Sound Conference with a 55 to 39 win over Capital Friday. The Lady Highclimbers are now 11-and-3 on the season, 6-and-2 in the SSC tied with Timberline and Peninsula for that number two spot in the conference. Shelton hosts North Thurston Wednesday.
The Shelton boys’ basketball team couldn’t catch Capital Friday falling to the Cougars 63 to 38. The game was broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
Capital led from the start, turning a seven-point first quarter lead into a 25-point victory. The Cougars had four players score in double digits with 15 points each from Chris Penner and Grant Erickson. Luke Layton finished with 13. And Branden Riedel chipping in 10. Capital improved to 12-and-2 on the season, 6-and-2 in the South Sound Conference.
Jason Kenyon led Shelton in the loss with 14 points. Malik Freeman added 9 points. And Ty Thompson chipped in 8. The Highclimbers drop to 6-and-9 on the season, 2-and-6 in the SSC. Shelton travels to Confernce leading North Thurston Wednesday.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team beat Bremerton Friday 49 to 41. The Lady Bulldogs evened their overall record at 7-and-7 and picked up their second Olympic League win at 2-and-5. The girls from Belfair host Olympic Tuesday.
The North Mason boys’ basketball team beat Bremerton for the second time this season on Friday 48 to 31. The Bulldogs are now 5-and-9 on the season, 2-and-5 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair travel to Olympic Tuesday.
Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team beat North River 63 to 38. The Owls jumped out to 28 to 11 first quarter lead, expanded the lead to 21 at the half and were up 25 after the third. The boys from Matlock improved to 9-and-4 on the season, 3-and-1 in the 1B Coastal League. MMK is tied with Oakville for second place. The Owls and Acorns face off Tuesday.
