Basketball: Shelton Girls Rally, NM, MMK Teams Sweep

The Shelton girls’ basketball team rallied from nine points down in the fourth quarter to beat Timberline 42 to 41 on a Katie Johnson three-pointer with 5 seconds left. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC broadcast the game.

Johnson finished with 13 points, 10 in the fourth quarter. Timber Ware added 10 points. And Kylind Powell chipped in 8 as the Lady Highclimbers improved to 8-and-3 on the season, 4-and-2 in the South Sound Conference.

Shelton is now tied with Timberline for third place in the conference behind Gig Harbor and Peninsula who are tied for first in the SSC.

The ‘Climbers travel to Clover Park Monday for a non-league game before returning the South Sound Conference play on Wednesday at Yelm.

The Shelton boys’ basketball team lost at Timberline Friday 70 to 53. The Blazers jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first quarter and the Highclimbers were unable to recover. Shelton dropped to 5-and-8 on the season, 1-and-5 in the South Sound Conference. The ‘Climbers return home Wednesday after seven games on the road. They host Yelm on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team slipped by Coupeville 63 to 61 in overtime Friday. The Bulldogs ended a four-game losing skid and improved to 4-and-7 on the season. The boys from Belfair return to 2A Olympic League play Tuesday at Port Angeles.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team had little trouble with Coupeville Friday, as the Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Wolves 39 to 17. The girls from Belfair improved to 6-and-6 on the season. They return to 2A Olympic League play Tuesday when they host Port Angeles.

The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team rallied from a nine-point halftime deficite to beat Lake Quinault 48 to 43 Friday. The Lady Owls were led by Kaylee Sowles’ 27 points and 11 rebounds. And Jadyn Davidson scored 16 points and grabbed 22 boards. The girls from Matlock improved to 7-and-4 on the season, 1-and-1 in the 1B Coastal League. The MMK girls host Wishkah Valley Tuesday.

The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team pulled away from Lake Quinault in the fourth quarter and the Owls beat the Elks 50 to 36 Friday. Jason Shaw led the way for the boys from Matlock with 13 points and Trenton Narrance added 10. The MMK boys improved to 7-and-4 on the season, 1-and-1 in the 1B Coastal League. They host Wishkah Valley Tuesday.
