Basketball: Shelton Falls to Peninsula

A shorthanded Shelton girls’ basketball team lost a back-and-forth South Sound Conference game Wednesday to Peninsula 55 to 53. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC broadcast the game in which neither team led by more than six points.

The Seahawks’ Belle Frazier was a force that the Highclimbers were unable to stop, finishing with 36 points.

Shelton was more balanced with three players scoring in double digits led by Kayla Gairns’ 19 points. Katie Johnson and Jasmine Griffin each scored 14. The ‘Climbers were missing Timber Ware and Kylind Powell. Both starters were out sick.

Shelton is now 7-and-4 on the season, 3-and-2 in the SSC. The loss to Peninsula combined with Timberline’s three-point win over Gig Harbor puts the Lady Highclimbers in fourth place in the standings. The Seahawks, the Blazers and the Tides are now in a three-way tie for first place.

Shelton hosts Timberline Friday. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast that game live. Tip off in the Mini Dome is 7 PM.

The Shelton boys’ basketball team wasn’t able to catch Peninsula Wednesday after falling behind by ten points in the first quarter and the Highclimbers lost to the Seahawks 58 to 41. Shelton is now 5-and-7 on the season, 1-and-4 in the South Sound Conference. The ‘Climbers travel to Timberline Friday.

The Shelton girls’ bowling team lost to Black Hills Wednesday. This is the Highclimbers second team loss of the season and they are now 12-and-2, 9-and-1 in the South Sound Conference. Shelton travels to Yelm today (Thursday, January 4, 2018).

The Shelton boys’ wrestling team lost at Aberdeen 72 to 16. Individual results were not available. The Highclimbers travel to Gig Harbor next Thursday.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost at Olympic Wednesday 56 to 34. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 5-and-6 on the season, 1-and-4 in the Olympic League. The girls from Belfair host Coupeville Friday.
