Basketball: Shelton Girls Hold Off Olympic, Boys Fly By River Ridge

The Shelton girls’ basketball team held off Olympic Thursday 50 to 43 in a game broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The Lady Highclimbers led by as many as 10 in the first quarter but allowed the Lady Trojans to pull within two in the second quarter. In the third, Shelton built its lead to 13 but Olympic cut it to seven. The ‘Climbers pulled away again in the fourth, going up 17, but the Trojans came back, running out of time before completing their comeback.

Kylind Powell led Shelton with 12 points, hitting six of six free throws. Timber Ware added 11 points, hitting three, three-pointers. And Jasmine Griffin scored 9 points.

Olympic’s Kiki Mitchell led all scorers with 18 points.

The Highclimbers improved to 7-and-2 on the season. They return to South Sound Conference play Wednesday when they host Peninsula on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The Shelton boys’ basketball team evened their record Thursday, beating River Ridge 68 to 33. The Highclimbers held the Hawks to single digit scoring in first, second and third quarters and turned an 8-point first quarter lead into a 25-point lead at the half and a 34-point lead after three. Shelton has won their last three games and are 5-and-5 on the season. They play Tumwater Friday at North Thurston High School.
