Thursday at around 1:00 PM, Shelton Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Fairmount Avenue regarding a possible burglary in progress. A neighbor noticed a suspicious male walking around the exterior of a friend’s home. The neighbor was aware that their friend was currently out of town on vacation. When the man entered the house, they immediately called 911.
Police officers soon surrounded the home, at which point the suspect attempted to flee out the back door. Officers successfully stopped the suspect and took them into custody without incident. The suspect is a 37-year-old Shelton man with an extensive criminal history.
Based on evidence at the scene, investigators believe this was not the first time the suspect entered the home while the owners have been on vacation. A vehicle that was previously stolen from the home was later located in the 1200 block of Franklin Street. The tires had been removed and the vehicle was placed on blocks. Several firearms and electronics are still missing.
Police attribute the arrest to the vigilant neighbor. The suspect was booked into the Mason County Jail for Residential Burglary and other felony offenses. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Shelton Police Department at 360-426-4441.
