The Shelton girls’ basketball team dominated Central Kitsap Friday 69 to 42 in a game broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Lady Highclimbers started the game on a 5-0 run and led by as many as 12 in the first quarter. The Lady Cougars were able to trim that lead to three points in the second quarter but the ‘Climbers responded and pulled away in the second half.
Timber Ware led the way for Shelton scoring 17 points. Kylind Powell had 15 points. Taya Gouley, Kayla Gairns and Decheiy Littlesun each added 8 points. Lexi Moon chipped in 6. Katie Johnson scored 3 points in the first quarter. Jasmine Griffin hit a basket in the first quarter. And Carlie Thompson hit two free throws in the fourth.
The Highclimbers improved to 4-and-2 on the season, 3-and-1 in the South Sound Conference. They travel to Foss Monday and host North Mason Tuesday in a game the will be broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Shelton boys’ basketball team lost a close one in Silverdale Friday, falling at Central Kitsap 63 to 61. The Highclimbers were up 16 to 15 after the first quarter and had a 32 to 26 halftime lead but the Cougars outscored Shelton in the third 22 to 15 to lead 48 to 47. The fourth was just as close with CK edging the ‘Climbers 15 to 14. Shelton dropped to 2-and-5 on the season, 1-and-3 in the South Sound Conference. Friday’s game was the first of seven road games for the Highclimbers. They play at Hoquiam Monday, at North Mason Wednesday (in a game that will be broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC), play River Ridge at North Thurston High School on December 28th, play Tumwater at NTHS on December 29th (in a game that will be broadcast by MasonWebTV), play at Peninsula on January 3rd and at Timberline on January 5th. Shelton returns to the Mini Dome on January 10th against Yelm. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast that homecoming.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost at North Kitsap 70 to 50 Friday. The Lady Bulldogs fell behind by ten points in the first quarter and the Lady Vikings increased that to 18 after three. The girls from Belfair 2-and-3 on the season, 0-and-3 in the Olympic League. North Mason travels to Central Kitsap Monday.

The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team came up a point shy of Taholah Friday, 45 to 44. The Lady Owls trailed the Chitwhins by seven point heading into the fourth quarter. MMK held Taholah to nine points in that final 8 minutes while scoring 15 but it wasn’t enough to win their Coastal League opener. The girls from Matlock fell to 4-and-4 on the season. They travel to Clallam Bay Saturday (Dec. 16th) before hosting Three Rivers Christian Monday.
