Changes for County Solid Waste

Mason County is making some changes to its solid waste program to include new hours of operation and increased rates.

Disposal rates at all Mason County Transfer and Drop Box stations will increase by 2.9% beginning January 1, 2018. As directed by Resolution No. 61-13, fees will be increased each year by the amount of the October to October Consumer Price Index (CPI U) for the Olympia Metropolitan Area. This increase is to cover the annual cost increase experienced by the County to operate and maintain the Shelton, Hoodsport, Union, and Belfair transfer and drop box station locations.

The county will be extending the hours of operation at the Eells Hill Transfer Station next year. Starting Monday, January 29, 2018 the Eells Hill transfer station will be open from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday. Currently the station is open from 8 AM to 4 PM.

Mason County will expand the operation at Hoodsport drop box station to Sunday starting in 2018. Effective January 2, 2018 the Hoodsport drop box station will be open Friday through Sunday 9 AM to 4 PM. Currently, the station is only open Friday and Saturday.

The Union drop box station will not be open Sunday December 24th. It is the only solid waste facility normally open on Sundays and the County gets very little business on Christmas Eve so officials are closing to allow staff more time with their families this holiday season.
