State Highway Road Construction 12/10 to 12/16

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjoining areas from December 10, 2017 to December 16, 2017.


US 101 – Hoodsport Vicinity – Slide Debris Fence Repair
Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s)331.4
Description: Crews will repair a debris fence.
Work schedule: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday through December, drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic. 

SR 3 – Belfair Area – Widening and Safety Improvements
 SR 3  Region: Olympic   County: Mason  Location: Milepost(s) 25.3 to 27
Description: This widening project extended the center turn lane and provided paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3.

Work schedule: Drivers may encounter occasional night one-way alternating traffic.

SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: Crews will remove barriers to fish by constructing bridges across the Middle and East Forks of Wildcat Creek.

UPDATE: Please note SR 8 rolling slowdowns have been rescheduled to occur Tuesday, Dec. 12.

This date is weather-dependent and could be rescheduled.

After the rolling slowdowns are complete, drivers will use the right lanes of both westbound and eastbound SR 8.

Eventually all traffic will be on the reconfigured eastbound lanes. The road will then remain in that configuration for approximately 12 months.

The intersection of SR 8 and SR 108 in McCleary remains closed to all traffic around the clock. Drivers can detour via the Mox Chehalis Road interchange.


Highway: SR 106 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 20
Description: Drivers can expect to one-way traffic or shoulder closures for utility work.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 4.9 to 11.8
Description: Utility crews will conduct vegetation management. Drivers can expect to one-way traffic with flaggers.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday through Friday, March 2.

Highway: SR 300 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 3.3
Description: One-way alternating traffic for utility work.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 32.5 to 33.9
Description: Utility crews will conduct vegetation management. Drivers can expect single-lane and shoulder closures.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday through Dec. 29.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 281 to 294
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers for ditch debris removal.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Dec. 11-14.

Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

  • Pay attention – Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
  • Leave room between you and the car ahead of you – Most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively – be aware of what is happening around you.
  • Merge before you reach the work zone.
  • Don’t use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
