Shelton Splits Games; NM & MMK Fall
The Shelton basketball teams split games with North Thurston Friday. The Lady Highclimbers came from behind to beat the Rams 66 to 49 while the boys fell behind early and lost 77 to 59. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC was on hand for the boys’ game.
North Thurston led from the start of the game, building a nine point lead in the first quarter. Shelton turned Ram turnover into points and closed to with in a point in the second but NT pulled away by pressing the Highclimbers, forcing turnovers and scoring off Shelton’s mistakes. The Rams were up 30 in the third quarter.
North Thurston had four players score in double digits and improved to 5-and-0: Clayton Christian had 22 points; Jeremy Spencer finished with 20; Tim Tnkley added 16; and Garret Wallace chipped in 10.
In the loss, the Highclimbers were led by Ty Thompson’s 14 points. Malik Freeman finished with 8. Noah Benson, Caeleb Hitsman and Zachary Jonker each added 7. Six each for Ayler Auld and Travis Colbenson. And Casey Badillo-Brown finished with 4.
Shelton drops to 1-and-3 on the season, 0-and-2 in the South Sound Conference. The Highclimbers host an Australian team Tuesday at Oakland Bay Junior High School Tuesday at 7 PM. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC plans to broadcast that game live.
The Shelton girls started slow at North Thurston but came alive in the third quarter holding the Lady Rams to 7 points while scoring 22 and turning a six-point halftime deficite into nine-point lead. The Lady-‘Climbers then pulled away in the fourth for tha 66 to 49 road win.
Shelton was led by Jazmine Griffin’s 17 points and Katie Johnson’s 16. The Highclimbers improved to 3-and-1 on the season, 2-and-0 in the South Sound Conference. Shelton travels to Gig Harbor Wednesday.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost to Kingston Friday 49 to 35. The Lady Bulldogs are 2-and-2 on the season, 0-and-2 in the Olympic League. The girls from Belfair host Crosspoint Saturday in a game that will be broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC. Tipoff is 5:15 PM.
