A three-vehicle crash on Highway 3 at the Mason/Kitsap County Line injured two people from Belfair Tuesday afternoon. According to a State Patrol press memo, a 2010 Honda Fit and a 2000 Honda Odyssey Van were northbound on State Route 3 about 3 PM. The van was behind the car at “an unsafe distance.” At milepost 28, which is about a mile north of Belfair, the Fit slowed suddenly and the Odyssey struck it. The car then crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2015 Buick Encore SUV.
The highway was fully blocked for two hours and 20 minutes as the van came to rest on the northbound shoulder, the Fit ended up on the center line, and the SUV stopped on the southbound shoulder.
The driver of the Honda Fit, James G. Billington, 64 of Belfair, and a passenger in the Buick, Carol L. McCarty, 68 of Belfair, were transported by aid car to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
The driver of the Odyssey van, Stephanie M. Roller, 26 of Port Orchard, and the driver of the Buick SUV, Jimmy K. McCarty, 46 of Belfair, were not injured.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
