Shelton Boys’ Basketball Win Opener; Girls Fall

The Shelton boys’ basketball team took advantage of 19 Elma turnovers and the Highclimbers beat the Eagles in their season opener Thursday 66 to 44. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC broadcast the game.

Shelton had balanced scoring with Malik Freeman and Tyler Auld each scoring 10 points; Travis Colbenson and Caeleb Hitsman each adding 9 points; and Ty Thompson (despite foul trouble) and Jason Kenyon each chipping in 8 points. Casey Badillo-Brown (also limited by fould trouble) finished with 5 points. Noah Beson hit a three. And Matthew Gonzales and Cole Forsman each hit a basket. The only ‘Climber who played but didn’t score was Dominic Sansaver.

Elma was led in the loss by Cody Vollan’s 15 points while Carter Jacobson and Sam Schneider added 8 points each.

The Shelton boys hold their home opener Monday against Federal Way. This is a change after Tenino canceled their game against the Highclimbers. The game tips off in the Mini Dome at 7 PM.

The Shelton girls’ basketball team was outscored 11 to 6 in the third quarter at Mt. Tahoma Thursday and the Lady-Highclimbers dropped their season opener 49 to 45. Shelton outscored the T-Birds 11 to 6 in the first quarter but Mt. Tahoma rallied in the second quarter, pulling within a point at the half. That comeback continued in the third and the T-Birds were up 31 to 27 to start the fourth. The teams played evenly in the fourth. Shelton’s next game is Saturday afernoon against Hoquiam. Tipoff in the Mini Dome is 2 PM.
