State Highway Road Construction 11/12 to 11/18

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjoining areas from November 12, 2017 to November 18, 2017.

CONSTRUCTION

US 101 – Hoodsport Vicinity – Slide Debris Fence Repair
Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s)331.4
Description: Crews will repair a debris fence.
Work schedule: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday from Monday, Nov. 13  through December, drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic.

SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: Crews will remove barriers to fish by constructing bridges across the Middle and East Forks of Wildcat Creek.

Work schedule:  Westbound SR 8 is reconfigured to accommodate both directions of traffic. The SR 8 speed limit in the area is reduced to 45 mph. This reconfiguration is illustrated in this YouTube video.

The intersection of SR 8 and SR 108 in McCleary is closed to all traffic around the clock through summer 2019. During the closure, drivers headed to McCleary will be directed to the Mox Chehalis Road interchange.

SR 3 – Belfair Area – Widening and Safety Improvements

Description: This widening project extended the center turn lane and provided paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3.

Work schedule: Drivers may encounter occasional night one-way alternating traffic.

MAINTENANCE

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 4 to 4.3

Description: Utility work. Drivers can expect a southbound right shoulder closure and one-way alternating traffic with flaggers as needed.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 10.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 318 to 327
Description: Utility company will conduct vegetation management. Drivers can expect to encounter occasional one-way traffic with flaggers.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday through Nov. 30.
No work Nov. 10 or Nov. 22-24.

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 28.2 to 32.5
Description: Utility installation. Drivers can expect to encounter a rolling slowdown anytime within the work window.
Work Schedule: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday through Friday, Nov. 9-10.

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 32.5 to 33.9
Description: Utility crews will conduct vegetation management. Drivers can expect single-lane and shoulder closures.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday through Dec. 29.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 281 to 294
Description: Debris removal. Drivers can expect to encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Nov. 6-9.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 12.4 to 13.5
Description:  One-way alternating traffic for vegetation management.
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 14-17.

Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

  • Pay attention – Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
  • Leave room between you and the car ahead of you – Most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively – be aware of what is happening around you.
  • Merge before you reach the work zone.
  • Don’t use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
