Football: Shelton Falls to Capital; NM Can’t Catch Bremerton

The Shelton football team fell to Capital Friday 49 to 17 at Ingersoll Stadium. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC was on hand for the game.

The Highclimbers scored first and led 3 to 0 after the first quarter but it was all Cougars from the second quarter on.

Shelton’s Evan Rhodes ended Capital’s opening drive with an interception on the 23 yardline. The ‘Climbers then marched to the 66 yards, converting three fourth-and-one plays, to the Cougars’ 11 where the drive stalled and Zach DeLaSancha kicked a 27-yard field goal.

After that, Capital’s combination of Grant Erickson and Chrs Penner was too much for Shelton and the Cougars scored 28 points in the second quarter to lead 28 to 3 at the half.

Capital added another TD in the third quarter before Shelton found the end zone again as Jason Kenyon punched it in from a yard out. That touchdown was set up by a 46-yard pass to Anthony Boren. The Highclimbers trailed 35 to 10.

Capital added two more touchdowns before Shelton QB Trevor Meier connected with Rhodes on a 15-yard TD pass. Those 17 points were the most scored by the Highclimbers in a game this season.

Shelton dropped to 0-and-9 on the season. They host Mt. Tahoma next Friday to wrap up the season. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast the game between the Highcilmbers and the T-Birds.


The North Mason football team lost at Bremerton Friday 22 to 19. The Bulldogs scored first, taking advantage of a Knights fumble and going 46 yard, capped by Dylan Tupolo’s a four-yard touchdown run.

Bremerton responded quickly and tied the game with a big kickoff return and a 31-yard TD pass. The Knights took the lead on their next possession with a 62-yard touchdown pass. The point after was missed but Bremerton lead 13 to 7.

In the second quarter, North Mason tied the game again after going 80 yards with Tupolo second TD run from three yards out. Point after missed.

The teams traded interceptions and the half ended 13-13.

The Knight’s took back the lead in the third quarter with a safety but the Bulldog defense stepped up to stop Bremerting and the boys from Belfair took back the lead on a Tyler Thomas four-yard TD run. The two-point conversion failed but North Mason was up 19 to 15.

In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs had two long drivers stopped by turnovers and the Knights scooped up the second fumber and returned it 96 yards to take back the lead with about two minutes to go.

Time ran out on North Mason as the Bulldogs fell to 4-and-5 on the season, 1-and-5 in the Olympic League.

The boys from Belfair play Clover Park next week. It has yet to be determined whether the game will be played at Phil Pugh Stadium or in Lakewood.
