Deputy Injured in Belfair Crash

A Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3 in Belfair Wednesday. The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision that occurred just before 7 PM and blocked the highway for two and a half hours. According to a Trooper report, a 2006 Hyundai Sonata was westbound on Straub Hill attempting to turn left onto SR-3. The Deputy was northbound on Highway 3 responding to an emergency in a 2016 Ford Explorer. The driver of the Sonata didn’t see the the SUV coming around the corner with lights and siren activated. The Explorer struck the Hyundai on the driver’s side.

The Deputy, identified as Sean R. Colpitts, 40 of Olympia, was transported by aid car to Mason General Hospital in Shelton.

The driver of the Hyundai, Virgil D. Tooley, 68 of Belfair, was not injured.
