A three-vehicle hit-and-run head-on collision blocked Highway 3 near the Bremerton Airport for eight hours Sunday and into Monday morning. And the State Patrol is looking for the driver who caused the crash that injured three people – one from Belfair.
According to a WSP press memo, just after 10 PM, a red 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling northbound on SR-3 at a high rate of speed. At the intersection with Barney White Road, the Cavalier used the shoulder and part of the one northbound lane to pass a 2007 Saturn Vue SUV on the right. The Chevy sideswiped the Saturn. The driver of the SUV lost control, crossed the center line and struct a southbound 2000 Jaguar S Type four-door head-on. The driver of the Cavalier then fled the scene on foot.
The driver of the Jaguar, Angela M. Schenkel, 34 of Bremerton, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
A passenger in the Jag, Craig A. Burdick, 39 of Belfair, was transported by aid car to Tacoma General Hospital.
The driver of the Saturn, Matthew R. Fink, 36 of Edgewood, was transported by aid car to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
Troopers ask anyone with information regarding this collision or the driver who fled to call Detective M. Welander at 360-473-0300.
