Firefighters responded to a brush fire between Phillips Lake and Timberlakes Monday night. The three-acre fire was first reported around 10 PM. Crews from Central Mason Fire & EMS, Mason County Fire District 3 and 11, and the State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) contained the fire overnight. However, smoke is still visible in the area. At last report, crews were still on scene mopping up.
This is the second brush fire in the area in as many days. Sunday, firefighters from Central Mason and Fire Districts 4 and 11 extinguished a brush fire behind the Fred Meyer store on Wallace Kneeland Boulevard in Shelton.
Authorities remind residents, conditions are extremely dry and any spark can spread quickly. Also, a ban on all outdoor burning except recreational fires in approved fire pits is in effect until further notice.
