One person died and two others were injured when a truck struck a tree on Highway 108 Saturday afternoon. The State Patrol reports the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was eastbound on SR-108 at a high rate of speed. At milepost 8, the truck failed to negotiate a turn near Eich Road and struck the tree about 2 PM. The crash blocked the highway for five and a half hours.
The name of the deceased passenger has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the truck, Todd V. Jones, 25 of Salkum, was transported by aid car to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The other passengers, Morgan I. Hite, 28 of Akron, Indiana, was transported to Mason General Hospital.
A press memo indicates drugs or alcohol were involved and speed was a contributing factor.
Jones faces charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
