Road Construction on State Highways 5/21/17 to 5/27/17

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjoining areas from May 21, 2017 to May 27, 2017.

CONSTRUCTION

SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: Crews will remove barriers to fish.

Work schedule: Westbound SR 8 is reconfigured to accommodate both directions of traffic. The SR 8 speed limit in the area is reduced to 45 mph. This reconfiguration is illustrated in this YouTube video.

The intersection of SR 8 and SR 108 in McCleary is closed to all traffic around the clock through summer 2019. During the closure, drivers headed to McCleary will be directed to the Mox Chehalis Road interchange.

SR 8 W of Old Sand Crk. Rd. to Jct. US 101 – Paving
Highway: 8 Region: Olympic County: Thurston Location: Milepost(s) 6.75 – 11.5 and 17.25 – 20.63
Description: Crews will repave sections of SR 8 between US 101 in Thurston County and McCleary.
Work Schedule: While work is under way, portions of westbound SR 8 will reduce to one lane. The single-lane closures are scheduled to occur between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. each weekday. Weather permitting, the work will be complete before July.

SR 3 – Belfair Area – Widening and Safety Improvements

Highway: SR 3   Region: Olympic   County: Mason  Location: Milepost(s) 25.3 to 27
Description: This widening project will extend the center turn lane and provide paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3. The improvements are intended to be built in two separate stages.

Work schedule:   Drivers can expect short-term traffic stops for trucks entering and leaving the work zone between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

SR 302 – N of E Victor Rd – Culvert Replacement

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Mason  Location: Milepost(s) 4.5
Description: Crews will replace two failing culverts and install infrastructure to help stabilize the highway.
Until further notice, SR 302 near Victor is reduced to a single lane with traffic being controlled by a signal. The speed limit is also reduced to 25 mph. These temporary measures will be in effect until permanent repairs can be made.

Work schedule:  This project remains on standby due to weather. Work requires seven consecutive days of dry weather. Due to a slide condition, the roadway has been reduced to a single lane.

MAINTENANCE

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 4 to 4.1
Description: Catch basin repair. Drivers can expect one-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Schedule: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, May 22-25.

Highway: SR 300 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 2.2 to 2.4
Description: Vegetation management. Drivers can expect one-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, May 22.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 275 to 293
Description: Catch basin cleaning. Drivers can expect one-way alternating traffic and shoulder closures.
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through May 25.

Highway:
 US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 281.5 to 282
Description: Utility crews will install infrastructure. Drivers can expect shoulder closures.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday through Monday, June 5.
