Results from 57th Annual Shelton Invitational

The 57th Annual Shelton Track & Field Initational was held Saturday at Highclimber Stadium. Topping this year’s event were Sehome on the boys’ side and Puyallup on the girls’ side.

For the first time in the Invite’s history, there were two Co-Athletes of the Meet on the men’s side: Nolan Van Amen from South Kitsap who won the Mens Discus and Shot Put; and Josh Braverman from River Ridge who took the Mens 110-Meter Hurdles and the 300-Meter Hurdles.

The Women’s Athlete of the Meet went to Puyallup’s Christal Johnson who won the Women’s 200-Meter Dash and 400-Meter Dash.

The Shelton boys tied with Port Townsend for 9th in the final team standings while the Lady Highclimbers were 29th.

Top placing Highclimbers: Cody Hall won the Men’s Javelin with a personal record throw of 174 feet; Cody Simon won the Men’s Pole Vault; McKenzie Salazar-Fox finished 4th in the Women’s Shot Put.

In the freshmen competition, Shelton’s Ethan Bursch was 2nd in the Men’s Frosh 1 Mile setting a personal best with a time of 4 minutes 46.48 seconds; Nick Morales had a personal best in the Men’s Shot Put with a distance of 35 feet 6 inches while placing 4th among freshman.

Setting personal records:Josiah Salazar-Fox – 53.06 seconds in the Men’s 400-Meter Dash; AJ Boothe – 5 min. 14.54 sec. in the Men’s 1 Mile; Victoria Rodeback – 26 ft. 11 in. in the Women’s Shot Put.

Next action for the Shelton track & field teams is Monday when the Highclimbers compete in the Bob Atwell Classic at South Sound Stadium in Lacey.

The Mary M. Knight girls finished 24th while the boys from Matlock were 30th. Top placing Owls: Ian Frost was 3rd in the Men’s Discus and Kaylee Sowle was 3rd in the Women’s High Jump and finished 4th in the Women’s Long Jump.

The Mary M. Knight track & field teams have a Pacific League meet Thursday at Chief Leschi Stadium in Puyallup.

The North Mason girls placed 26th.

Top placing Bulldog was Lily Campbell who finished 2nd in the Women’s Javelin with a personal record distance of 122 feet 11 inches.

Three North Mason freshman did well with Natalie Carstensen winning the Women’s Frosh 400-Meter Dash setting a personal record of 63.18 seconds; Reese Smelcer placing 3rd in the Men’s Frosh 100-Meter Dash and 4th in the Men’s Frosh 400-Meter Dash with a personal best of 55.46 seconds; and Kira Schwerzler finishing 4th in the Women’s Frosh 400-Meter Dash with a personal best of 66.86 seconds.

The North Mason track & field teams head to the Olympic League Championships Saturday at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo.
