Derrick Haskins, a recently retired ordained pastor, was appointed as Love INC’s (Love In the Name of Christ) new Executive Director effective March 1, 2017. Originally from Ireland, Derrick was ordained and served as a Methodist minister in Ireland for nearly 22 years before moving to the United States. Haskins has served in two churches since coming to the United States in 1994.
During his full-time ministry in Ireland, Derrick had the opportunity of initiating and overseeing three major community projects that served the homeless, the poor, the socially disadvantaged, the elderly and marginalized people. “He comes to Love INC with prior experience and passion,” said Don Shipley, president of Love INC.
Haskins’ vision is to serve those in need with compassion and to expand Love INC services. He wants to create stronger links with the 21 partner churches and pastors and their Church Ministry Coordinators. “I plan to recruit additional churches in Mason County to come on board and assist those in need,” added Haskins. Derrick especially wants to forge new partnerships with the local community and businesses. “And I believe Love INC is a vital Christian model where the resources of individual churches of Mason County are pooled together to express, in practical ways, Love In the Name of Christ.”
Derrick is married to Barbara and has two married adult daughters, Kathryn who lives in Dublin, Ireland and Rosalyn who lives in Des Moines, Iowa.
