Spencer Lake Restaurant Owner Shot; Shooter in Custody

The owner of Spencer Lake Bar & Grill was shot Wednesday morning. According to Mason County Sheriff Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling, an individual who was unknown to the ownership entered the restaurant on Pickering Road about 7:45 AM. The restaurant was open for a meeting of the Pioneer Kiwanis. The individual was acting irrational and the owner, Larry Lawrence, asked him to leave. A scuffle then occurred and Lawrence was shot more than once.

Lawrence was able to pin the shooter down and with the help of Kiwanis members, the man was detained until law enforcement arrived.

Lawrence was transported to St. Peter Hospital in Olympia where he is reported in stable condition. No one else was hurt.

“All the Kiwanis people are fine.” Spurling told MasonWebTV Powered by HCC, “We had a couple of kids in there. The Pioneer School District staff was there because they were doing a presentation. And everybody was fine. They were all shaken up but fine.”

Spurling called Lawrence and the others who helped apprehend the shooter “heroes”.

“Had some amazing heroes to run up and take this guy into custody with the owner.”

The shooter was booked into Mason County Jail and the investigation in ongoing.
