Taholah Girls Take District Championship

The Taholah girls’ basketball team too the Championship in the the 2012 Southwest District IV “1B” Girls’ Basketball Tournament coming from behind to beat Mary M. Knight 48 to 43.

The Lady Chitwhins fell behind by nine points in the first quarter and fought back into the game and kept it close only to pull away in the end, taking advantage of Owl turnovers late in the ball game (the Owls committed 37 miscues) and hitting their free throws with time running out. Taholah only hit 7 of 22 free throws but went 6 for 14 in the fourth quarter. The Chitwhins were led by Trish Dunn and Rachel Cheney who each at 13 points while Laura James added 12. The girls’ from Matlock were led in the loss by Carlie Adsero’s 12 points and Jaycee Valley’s 10 points. Taholah is the No. 1 seed from District IV and plays Lopez at 6 PM Saturday at Timberline High School in Lacey. Mary M. Knight plays Saturday at 4 PM at Timberline against NW Yeshiva.
