Three wrestlers from Mason County placed at Mat Classic XXIX over the weekend. Shelton’s Quinn Lacy finished third in the girls’ State Wrestling Tournament at 170 pounds while North Mason’s Nico Ramirez was seventh among Class 2A wrestlers at 285 pounds and the Buldogs’ Colton Harmon was 8th in the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament at 106 pounds.
Quinn Lacy’s journey started with a 17 to 3 decision over Skyview’s Jennesee Sayler in the first round. In the second round the Highclimber beat Caitlin Woodworth from Oak Harbor with a fall at 5:38 to advance to the semi-finals. In her semi-final, Lacy lost to Sunnyside’s Aylin Bautista with a fall at 4:44 dropping the Shelton sophomore into the consolation bracket where she beat Sayler for the second time this time with a fall at :34. In the match for third place, Quinn faced Caylee Collins from Highline and won with a fall at 2:54.
Nico Ramirez opened the tournament with a win over Alan Castillo from East Valley-Yakima with a fall at :34. Foss’ Jackson Potts knocked Ramirez into the consolation bracket in the second round with 6 to 1 decision. In the third round, the Bulldog beat Aberdeen’s Murray 5 to 2 before losing to Jonathan Cuevas from Toppenish with a fall at 7:21. Ramirez then beat AJ Sellem from Lindbergh with a fall at 3:00 to take seventh.
In the first round, Colton Harmon beat Rochester’s Jeremy Brant with a fall at 1:59. Lost to Sammy Flores from Ephrata 9 to 7 in the second round. In the third round, Harmon knocked off Woodland’s Josiah Sanders 6 to 4 before losing to Kevin Plenh-Romero from Highline with a fall at 1:55. Olympic’s Anjelo Pangelinan then won the decision 8 to 6 in the final bout and Harmon finished eighth.
