Meanwhile, the Mary M. Knight boys lost at Columbia Adventist 58 to 30 Tuesday. The loss in the first round of the 2017 Southwest District 4 Class 1B Boys’ Basketball Tournament ends the Owls season. The MMK boys finished 4th in the 1B Coastal League and ended up with a 7-and-12 overall record.
In a message to MasonWebTV, Owls’ Coach Tom Kerr said,
“Columbia Adventist was a tough challenge with their height and athleticism. They are a well coached team and played very good pressure defense against us. Jason Shaw went out early in the 1st quarter with an ankle injury and was sidelined the rest of the game. As our point guard and best offensive threat so it was a huge loss for us early in the game. However, the kids have been able to respond to adversity all year long and they never quit, no matter the score on the scoreboard. This is something that we stressed this year, is always finishing and giving a perfect effort. I know its tough to lose your last game of the year, but I am proud of the effort that we give each day. With this in mind, we have a bright future ahead, losing one senior and returning our entire starting line up.”
