MMK Girls Comeback, Beat King’s Way

The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team rallied from 13 points down to beat King’s Way Christian 44 to 42 in the second round of the 2012 District IV “1B” Girls Basketball Tournament. 

The Owls fell behind by 11 points in the first half as the Knights had a big second quarter during which they scored 17 points while holding the girls from Matlock to 9 points. King’s Way Christian’s Harper Christian had 15 points in the half. In the third quarter, Mary M. Knight turned up their defense, shutting down Christian and holding King’s Way to six points. The Owls were down four after the third and finished the comeback in the fourth, tying the game with a minute to go. MMK’s Emily Johnson scored the winning basketball with just seconds left and the Owls advance to the District Championship game at 2 PM Monday against Taholah on Mary M. Knight was led in scoring by Lauren Dierkop who had 12 points. Miranda Sowle added nine. And Ashley Kiliz ended up with seven.
