Basketball: MMK Girls Win; Shelton & NM Fall

The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team knocked off Wishkah Valley 49 to 27. Kaylee Sowle led the Lady Owls with 16 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists, and 6 steals. Mary Koonrad hit three three-pointers and finished with 11 points. Senior Kalah Ralph added 9 points. Senior Sarah Parker chiped in 7 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. And 8th grader Lisa Oppelt pulled out 13 rebounds. The girls from Matlock evened their overall record at 8-and-8 and improved to 7-and-4 in the 1B Coastal League, maintaining third place in the standings. They travel to Three Rivers Christian on Thursday and wrap up the regular season at North River Saturday.

The Shelton girls’ basketball team lost to Timberline 59 to 43. The Lady Highclimbers are 11-and-8 on the season, 6-and-7 in the South Sound Conference – still fourth in the standing. They travel to Yelm Thursday and will start play in the West Central / Southwest District Tournament next Thursday.

The Shelton boys’ basketball team was held to four points in the second quarter and Timberline turned the Highclimbers’ three point first quarter lead into an 84 to 57 victory. Shelton was led in the loss by Kyle Kimball’s 23 points. Tyler Giraldes finished with 12. Travis Colbenson added 10. And Casey Badillo-Brown chipped in 9.
The Highclimbers are now 5-and-14 on the season, 1-and-12 in the South Sound Conference. They wrap up the season Thursday against Yelm in a game that will be broadcast by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team lost at Sequim Tuesday 57 to 40. The Bulldogs drop to 6-and-12 on the season, 1-and-11 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair wrap up the season at home against Bremerton Thursday.
