Five Still Wrestling at State – Three Semi Finalists

MMK Hoops Playing in Districts Tonight

 

There are five wrestlers from Mason County who made it to the second day of competition at the State Wrestling Championships with three making the semifinals at Mat Classic XXIV.

Semi Finalists:

Shelton’s Ty McCullough is facing Michael Nguyen from Evergreen High School in Vancouver at 10 AM Saturday in the Class 4A 113-pound weight class.

North Mason’s Zac Joaquin is in the semis at Class 2A 113-pounds. He takes on Klahowya’s Brian Burchett at 10:10 AM. The Bulldogs’ Rene Gaspar is also in the semifinals at 120 pounds. Gaspar faces Jack Konzal from Deer Park at 10:20 AM.

Consolation Bracket:

The Highclimbers’ Johnathan Dennis won in the first round but lost in the second. In the consolation bracket Dennis was victorious and faces C.J. Edrington from Chiawana at 11:10 AM Saturday in the 4A 182 pound weight class.

North Mason’s Brian McCarty lost in the first round but won the next two in the consolation bracket and is wrestling Carlos Toledano from Cedarcrest at 11 AM in the Class 2A 145-pound weight class.

Eliminated:

Shelton’s Colby Barber won his first bout, lost his second and was eliminated in the third round at 170 pounds. Adam Coffman wrestled three different opponents at 132 pound but was eliminated in the consolation bracket. Malachi Conklin lost in the second round at 138 pounds. And the Bulldogs’ Chase Davis was eliminated at 190 pounds after the second round.

In team scoring Shelton is 14th while North Mason is 19th.

 

At the State Swim and Dive Championships, Shelton’s Indie Endicott didn’t make the second day of competition finishing 17th in the 50 freestyle.

 

The Mary M. Knight basketball teams continue play in the 2012 “1B” District IV Tournament tonight with games in Montesano on MasonWebTV.com. The Lady Owls take on King’s Way Christian at 5 PM in a loser out/winner to the Regional Round of the State Tournament and District Championship game. The boys from Matlock face Columbia Adventist Academy at 6:30 PM. The winner of this game heads to the District Championship on Monday and will be heading to the Regional Round of State. The loser will play on Monday for the final Regional spot.

If the MMK girls make the Regional Round they would play at Timberline High School on February 25th. (4 PM as No. 2; 6 PM as No. 1)

If the Owl boys head to the Regional Round, they would play on February 24th at Timberline as No. 1 (8 PM) or No. 2 (6 PM), or at Mount Lake Terrace High Schools as No. 3 (6 PM).
