Basketball: Shelton & NM Fall; MMK Girls Win

The Shelton girls’ basketball team lost to Peninsula Friday 54 to 44 on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

On senior night, the Lady Highclimbers came back from an 8-point first quarter deficit and had a four-point second quarter lead but came out flat in the third quarter allowing Peninsula to score 21 points and build a 13 point lead.

Shelton was only able to get as close as five before the Seahawks pulled away to maintain third place in the South Sound Conference.

Peninsula’s Belle Frazier finished with 19 points to lead all scorers and went 7 for 8 at the free throw line. Kirsten Ritchie added 15 points for the Seahawks.

The Highclimbers were led in the loss by Decheiya Littlesun’s 11 points. Jordyn Peterson had 8. Katie Johnson, Timber Ware and Kayla Gairns each chipped in 6. Morgan Leach and Kara Bogh added a basket each. And Paige Johnson hit a free throw.

Shelton has three seniors on this year’s team: Jessica Girardin, Paige Johnson and Morgan Leach. They were recognized in a pregame ceremony.

The ‘Climbers drop to 11-and-7 on the season, 6-and-6 in the SSC. However, since Yelm lost to North Thurston, Shelton remains in fourth place, still a game ahead of the Tornados.

The Highclimbers host Timberline Tuesday and wrap up the regular season at Yelm on Thursday.
The Shelton boys’ basketball team was held to 4 points in the first quarter and 6 in the second and Peninsula beat the Highclimbers 51 to 34.
The Seahawks had three players score in double figures: Cade McGill 12, Sam Miller 11 and Seth Kasteler 10.
Shelton’s Tyler Giraldes led all scorers with 18.
The ‘Climbers dropped to 5-and-13 on the season, 1-and-11 in the South Sound Conference. The travel to Timberline Tuesday and wrap up the regular season at home against Yelm on Thursday in a game that is scheduled to be broadcast on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The North Mason boys’ basketball team lost to Olympic Friday 72 to 34. The Bulldogs drop to 6-and-11 on the season, 1-and-9 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair travel to Sequim on Tuesday and wrap up the season Thursday at home against Bremerton.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost to Olympic 43 to 24. The Lady Bulldogs are now 3-and-13 on the season and still winless in Olympic League play. They host Sequim Tuesday and wrap up the season at Bremerton Thursday.
The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team held Lake Quinault to 2 points in the first quarter as the Owls beat the Elk 49 to 39. Kaylee Sowle led the way with 25 points, 16 steals, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and four blocks. Mary Koonrad hit four three-pointers finishing with 16 points. The MMK girls are now 7-and-7 on the season, 6-and-3 in the 1B Coastal League currently in third place. They travel to Taholah today (Saturday).
