The Shelton girls’ basketball team held off Central Kitsap Wednesday 54 to 45 on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC..
The Highclimbers went on an 8-0 run with less than three minutes to go in the first quarter to brake a 7-7 tie and built a 12-point lead in the second quarter.
In the second half, the Cougars rallied and pulled within four in the third, taking a one-point lead with 4:40 to go in the game.
Shelton then pulled away with Jordyn Peterson hitting three, three-pointers in the fourth quarter, and the Lady-‘Climbers held off CK for their 11th win.
Peterson led Shelton with 13 points – 11 in the fourth quarter. Jasmine Griffin added 12 points. Timber Ware scored 8. Paige Johnson finished with 6 points. Decheiya Littlesun chipped in 5. Katie Johnson and Morgan Leach each had 3. And Kayl Gairns and Lexi Moon each hit a basket.
CK’s Vanessa Davies lead all scorers with 21 points and MacKenzie Page scored 13 points, hitting 7 of 9 free throws.
The Highclimbers are now 11-and-6 on the season, 6-and-5 in the South Sound Conference. Shelton maintained in fourth place in the standings, still a game ahead of Yelm who beat Capital but now a game behind Peninsula since the Seahawks lost to Gig Harbor.
