Basketball Shelton vs. North Thurston: Boys’ Fall; Girls Win

The Shelton boys’ basketball team led early in the first quarter but North Thurston came storming back to turn a five-point deficit into a 72 to 41 win in a game on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The Rams held the Highclimbers to six points in the second while taking advantage of turnovers to build a 26-point halftime lead. NT extended that lead to 31 in the third and Shelton was only able to cut that to 20 early in the fourth before the Rams starting to again convert turnovers into points.

North Thurston had three players score in double digits lead by Jeremy Spencer’s 25 – 12 in the second quarter. Clay Christian finished with 22 points. And Garrett Wallace added14.

The Highclimbers were led in the loss by Marshall McCullough who scored 14. Tyler Giraldes ended up with 8. Kyle Kimball had 7. Five points for Jha’mal Johnson. And four a piece for Travis Colbenson and Dylan Paul.

The Rams evened their South Sound Conference record at 4-and-4 (8-and-6 overall).

Shelton dropped its fourth game in a row and are now 5-and-9 on the season, 1-and-7 in the SSC. The Highclimbers host Gig Harbor Friday on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Shelton girls’ basketball team won a close one at North Thurston, coming from behind to beat the Rams 45 to 41. The Lady Highclimbers were down four after the first quarter 13 to 9. Outscored NT in the second 12 to 10 to cut that deficit to two at the half (23 to 21). Went on top by two at the end of the third. And outscored the Rams in a low scoring fourth 7 to 5 to move them into fourth place (a half-game ahead of Yelm) in the South Sound Conference standings.

Jasmine Griffin led Shelton with 17 points. Paige Johnson added 15. Timber Ware finished with 7 Jordyn Peterson added 4. And Decheiya Littlesun had 2.

For North Thurston, Quinlan Christian had 16 points and Brooklyn Harn 10.

The Lady-‘Climbers are now 9-and-5 on the season, 4-and-4 in the SSC. They travel to Conference leading Gig Harbor on Friday. The Lady Tides are is 9-and-0 in conference play, 11-and-3 overall.


The North Mason boys’ basketball team beat Klahowya for the second time this season on Wednesday night 57 to 30. The Bulldogs are now 6-and-8 on the season. They remain 1-and-6 in the 2A Olympic League. The Eagles are in the 1A Olympic League. The boys from Belfair host Kingston Friday.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team avenged their season opening loss to Klahowya Wednesday as the Lady Bulldogs beat the Eagles 46 to 30 to pick up their third win of the season. The girls from Belfair are now 3-and-11 overall. They travel to Kingston Friday.
