For the second time in two games, the Shelton boys’ basketball team needed overtime to win, this time over Hoquiam 76 to 66 in a non-league game on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Highclimbers fell behind the Grizzlies by as much as 14 points in the first half but mounted a comeback in the second half that slowly chipped away at the lead.
Shelton was down eight after three quarters and completed the rally to go up five points with 2:10 remaining in regulation. Hoquiam then scored a quick six points hitting two 3-pointers off turn overs to retake the lead. The game went back and forth before regulation ended in a 64-64 tie.
Overtime belonged to the Highclimbers who took advantage of Grizzly turn overs to outscore Hoquiam 12 to 2.
Shelton was led by Marshall McCullough’s 18 points, Kyle Kimball’s 17 points, and Tyler Giraldes’ 16 points. Jason Kenyon and Caeleb Hitsman each scored 8 points. Travis Colbenson chipped in 7 points. and Dylan Paul had 2 points.
Hoquiam got 26 points from Jack Adams III, 13 points from Jace Varner, and 12 points from Zach Spradin.
The Highclimbers improved to 4-and-3 on the season. Their next game is Wednesday against River Ridge. That game will be played at North Thurston High School at 5:15 PM. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will stream the game live online.
