Evergreen & CHOICE Locked Down Tuesday

Evergreen Elementary and CHOICE High School were placed on a short modified lock-down Tuesday while police responded to a report of a person with a gun riding a bike in the vicinity of the schools.

Personnel from the Shelton Police Department, Squaxin Island Police Department, the State Patrol, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the schools about 12:30 PM and joined Shelton School District Superintendent, Alex Apostle, in all-out support to ensure the safety of students, parents and staff.

The person was not located, and the lock-down was lifted around 2 PM. Law enforcement, Dr. Apostle, and the District’s Safety and Security Director Karen DeWitt remained onsite after the lock-down was lifted to offer continued support and maintain a presence for the safety of students and staff.
