Shelton Boys’ Basketball Fall to Capital

The Shelton boys’ basketball team lost to Capital in overtime 60 to 57 in a game on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.

The Highclimbers and the Cougars were in a back and forth contest. Neither were able to build more than a seven point lead. 

Shelton started slow but built a seven-point lead in the first quarter only to see Capital rally in the second quarter to go up six points at the half.

The third quarter saw the ‘Climbers battle their way back on top by five before the Cougars rallied again and had a two-point lead with under a minute to go. Shelton’s Tyler Giraldes tied the game at 51 with 12 seconds left to force overtime.

In the extra period, Shelton had an early three-point lead but Capital took advantage of untimely turnovers to pull away.

The Cougars’ Chris Penner led all scorers with 21 points as Capital improved to 3-and-0, 1-and-0 in the South Sound Conference.

The Highclimbers’ leading was Giraldes who finished with 20 points. 5 in overtime. Kyle Kimball added 16 points with Marchall McCullough chipping in 9 and Jason Kenyon and Caeleb Hitsman each scored 6 points.

Shelton dropped 2-and-1 on the season, 0-and-1 in the SSC. They travel to North Thurston Friday.


The Shelton girls’ basketball team continued their winning Wednesday knocking off South Sound Conference foe Capital 48 to 39. The Lady Highclimbers rallied in the second half to win their SSC opener.

Jasmine Griffin and Decheiya Littlesun each had 9 points to lead the way. Timber Ware finished with 7. And Jordyn Peterson and Paige Johnson  added 6 each.

Shelton is now 4-and-0 on the season, 1-and-0 in the South Sound Conference. The Lady-‘Climbers host North Thurston Friday on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
