Road Construction on State Highways 11/13 to 11/19

DOT sealThe following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjoining areas from November 13, 2016 to November 19, 2016.

CONSTRUCTION

SR 3 – Belfair Area – Widening and Safety Improvements

Highway: SR 3   Region: Olympic   County: Mason  Location: Milepost(s) 25.3 to 27
Description: This widening project will extend the center turn lane and provide paved shoulders and sidewalks on both sides of SR 3. The improvements are intended to be built in two separate stages.

Work schedule: Drivers can expect one-lane alternating traffic with flaggers each weeknight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

SR 302 – N of E Victor Rd – Culvert Replacement

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Mason  Location: Milepost(s) 4.5
Description: Crews will replace two failing culverts and install infrastructure to help stabilize the highway.

Work schedule:  This project remains on standby due to weather. Work requires seven consecutive days of dry weather.

MAINTENANCE

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 335.4 to 337
Description: Utility work. Drivers can expect southbound right shoulder closure.
Work schedule: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each weekday Nov 14-18.

Highway: SR 300 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 2.9
Description: Utility crews will replace fire hydrant. Drivers will encounter
Work schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Thurston Location: Milepost(s) 17.1 to 19.8
Description: Crews will install guardrail and rumble strips.
Work schedule: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Monday through Friday. Drivers can expect alternating left or right closures in both directions.

During the week of Monday, Nov. 14, there will be no scheduled impacts to traffic.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 10.5 to 15
Description: Vegetation management, guidepost installation, sign washing.
Work schedule: From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Monday through Friday through Nov. 17, drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic. Drivers are advised to expect delays during the above hours and allow extra time to travel through the work zones.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 310-313
Description: Utility crews will conduct vegetation management below power lines. Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers.
Work schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday through Nov. 22 excluding holidays.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Highway: SR 300  Region: Olympic   County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 3.2 to 3.3
Description: Belfair Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting
Schedule: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Tips for Driving Through Work Zones

  • Pay attention – Driver inattention is the number one cause of work zone accidents.
  • Leave room between you and the car ahead of you – Most work zone accidents involve someone running into the car ahead of them. Drive defensively – be aware of what is happening around you.
  • Merge before you reach the work zone.
  • Don’t use cell phones or adjust your radio while driving through the work zone.
