Local Schools Compete in “Pumpkin Chunkin” Saturday

Students at three local schools are hard at work designing and building their own trebuchets to launch pumpkins into the sky at the annual Union PumpkinFest Pumpkin Chunkin’ Contest at Hunter Farms in Union on Saturday. West Sound Tech, Shelton High School and Rainer High School will compete from 12 PM to 3 PM.


The competition is for builder skill, accuracy, and showmanship.

The North Mason Chamber of Commerce now sponsors this unique event, which draws thousands. Congressman Derek Kilmer and State Representative Drew MacEwen are scheduled to judge the event.

Known as “The Pumpkin Patch harvest festival at Hunter Farms,” they offer hay rides to the pumpkin patch, hay maze, animal viewing in the barn, corn maze, food and fun for the whole family daily throughout the month.
