Football: Shelton Knocks Off North Thurston

In a rare Monday night varsity football game the Shelton football team came from behind to knock off North Thurston 31 to 21.

The Rams scored on their opening drive but the Highclimbers responded with a 42-yard field goal by Cody Bragg. Two possession later, North Thurston took advantage of an interception and a short field to go up 14 to 3. The ‘Climbers then put together an 80-yard drive which ended with Tyler Giraldes running into the end zone from two yards out.

Shelton took over the game in the second half by opening the third quarter with a nine-play, 68-yard drive capped by a 25-yard TD pass from Giraldes to Marshall McCullough. Shelton’s defense then forces the Rams into two three-and-outs before Trenton Osman punched it in from five yards out finishing a seven-play, 65-yard drive. Evan Rhodes scored the Highclimbers’ fourth touchdown of the night making the score 31 to 14.

North Thurston added a touchdown late in the game but ran out of time to complete their comeback.

Shelton finished with 287 yards offense. Giraldes completed 10 of 20 passes for 119 yards, two touchdown and ran for another.
