The Shelton Skookum Rotary Club Foundation is hosting the 35th Annual OysterFest this weekend. Every year, thousands attend the two-day event which also features the West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship and Washington State Seafood Festival.
Along with nearly 100 unique food items from BBQ oysters to garlic shrimp, there will be a cook-off, hands-on water quality exhibits and plenty of entertainment. As always, Oysterfest is run by volunteers and about 100 local non-profit service clubs and organizations benefit from the event’s proceeds.
This will be OysterFest’s second year at Sanderson Field’s closed runway which is a mile north of the old fairgrounds. The old runway location provides better parking but free shuttle buses are being offered from the Shelton Civic Center, Shelton Yacht Club and across the street from Shelton High School.
Admission is $5.00 per person. Hours are 10 AM to 6 PM Saturday and 10 AM to 5 PM Sunday. For more information check out www.oysterfest.org.
