The following are high school sports results from Wednesday, September 14, 2016:
In cross country at Lake Isabella State Park, Capital topped the team scoring in both the boys and girls competition. Individual results show Shelton’s Anika Parker placed 2nd while freshman Ne’a Moffett was 3rd on the girls’ side. The top Highclimber from the boys’ team was William Johnson who placed 3rd. Shelton heads to the 39th Salt Creek Invitational in Port Angeles Saturday.

Two South Sound Conference teams remain in the Associated Press High School Football Poll. Peninsula (who plays at Shelton next Friday Sept. 23) is ranked 7th in the latest poll while Gig Harbor (who the Highclimbers play on Oct. 7) is number 9. Shelton’s opponent last week, O’Dea, remain ranked 3rd in the state among Class 3A school.
This week the Shelton football team travels to Yelm. The Tornados are 2-and-0 on the season while the Highclimbers are 1-and-1. Yelm held off Bethel 34 to 31 in their first game and took care of Thomas Jefferson last week 34 to 13 scoring 21 points in the second quarter and 13 points in the third. As you know, Shelton beat North Mason 49 to 7 in the Mason County Cup to open the season and lost to O’Dea 45 to 6 last week.

Other notes from the latest AP Poll: Lincoln is No. 10 on the 3A poll. Tumwater is tied with Archbishop Murphy as the top ranked team among Class 2A school while River Ridge is No. 4 and North Kitsap is ranked 10th. Montesano is 4th in the state on the Class 1A poll while Hoquiam is 8th.
