The Shelton football team couldn’t contain O’Dea Friday night, falling 45 to 6.
Playing in the 3rd Memorial Football Classic at Seattle’s Memorial Stadium, the Fighting Irish scored 17 points in the second quarter before the Highclimbers were able to put together a 10-play, 87-yard drive late in the second that ended with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Giraldes to Kyle Kimball. Unfortunately, Cody Bragg’s point after attempt was blocked and the teams went into the locker room at the half with O’Dea up 17 to 6.
The third quarter belonged to the Irish who went 65 yards in two plays, 69 yards in three plays, and 52 yards in two plays – all with touchdown runs of over 50 yards (54, 53 & 52).
In the fourth quarter, O’Dea went 72 yards on seven plays to cap their scoring.
Shelton’s final drive of the game started on the 33 and ended on the 11. The drive included the Highclimbers converting on a 4th down and 8 but getting stopped on a 4th and 1 on the 11.
The ‘Climbers did get two interceptions. Kimball picked off a pass in the first quarter and Skyler Ross, on man-to-man coveraged, pulled a pass away from an Irish reciever at midfield.
Shelton drops to 1-and-1 on the season. They open South Sound Conference play next Friday at 2-and-0 Yelm. MasonWebTV.com and Hood Canal Communications will be on hand for that SSC opener. Kick off is 7 PM.
The North Mason football team dropped to 0-and-2 on the season losing to Klahowya 28 to 6 Friday night. The Bulldogs host Kingston next Friday. Both teams will be looking for their first win in this Olympic League opener.
The Mary M. Knight football team lost at Crescent Bay Saturday 52 to 14. The Owls scored one touchdown in the third quarter and the other TD and a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. MMK is 0-and-2 on the season. The boys from Matlock hold their home openner next Saturday at 1 PM when they host Muckleshoot.
