Mason County Cup Stays in Shelton

The Shelton football team beat North Mason 49 to 7 Friday night in the 5th Annual Mason County Cup.  The Highclimbers dominated the Bulldogs to keep the Cup in Shelton for the third year in a row.

The Highclimbers jumped on the Bulldogs early scoring 15 first quarter points. Cody Hall put Shelton on the board with an 11-yard touchdown run and added a two-point conversion. Less than four minutes later, Troy Goodwin sprinted 60 yards for Shelton’s second TD.

In the second quarter, the ‘Climbers added to their lead: Cody Bragg by kicking two field goals (from 23 and 21 yards) and quarterback Tyler Giraldes hit Marshall McCullough for a 34-yard TD, taking a 28 to 0 lead into the locker room.

Shelton continued its dominance in the second half.  On a 1st and goal from the five, Giraldes turned a broken play into points by pulling back a hand off to Trenten Osman who was being tackled by two North Mason players and scrambled left before finding Kyle Kimball in the end zone. The younger players then got an opportunity to play with Goodwin scoring his second touchdown on a six-yard run and Jake Meyers racing 53 yard for the final Shelton points.

The Bulldogs did manage to find the end zone in the fourth quarter when Dylan Tupolo had a six-yard TD run.

The ‘Climbers racked up nearly 450 yards of offense while holding the boys from Belfair to just over 250 yards.

Next Friday, Shelton faces O’Dea at Memorial Stadium in Seattle while North Mason travels to Silverdale to take on Klahowya.

Hood Canal Communications and will be on hand for the Highclimbers/Fighting Irish game. Kick off is set for 7:30 PM.
