Managing diabetes requires an understanding of blood sugar levels and the role of insulin. Resuming their meetings in the fall, Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics will be presenting an “Insulin Update” at the next Shelton Diabetes Support Group meeting on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Pershing Meeting Room at Mason General Hospital. And at the next Allyn Diabetes Support Group meeting on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the in the Port of Allyn building’s downstairs meeting room.
MGH&FC’s Diabetes Wellness Program Director Sue Barwick, RN, C.D.E., will be presenting the class, discussing how insulin works, when it should be taken, how to elevate its effectiveness and manage its side effects, and what new insulins are available. Family members/significant others are also invited for the support they provide to their loved ones managing diabetes – and there will be time for questions and answers.
The Shelton Diabetes Support Group, affiliated with the American Diabetes Association, meets at MGH every third Thursday of the month from September to June. It is free and open to people with type 1 and 2 diabetes, their friends, and family. For more information, call Sue Barwick at (360) 427-7332.
