Firefighters from Mason County have been deployed to assist in the North Touchet fire, North of Walla Walla. MACECOM reports fire crews from Central Mason and Fire Districts 3, 4, 11, and 16 left early Sunday and are now on scene. The fire is burning five miles south of Dayton, is about 550 acres in size and 80% contained. No structures have been lost.
The fire started at about 4:41 p.m. Saturday. It may have been ignited by a spark from a resident on North Touchet Road who was cutting brush. However, the cause remains under investigation.
Twenty-five residences were under Level 3 evacuations and 100 residences are under Level 1 evacuation order. Officials said Sunday night all evacuation orders have been lowered to a Level 1, which mean residents need to stay alert.
