It took just two hours for Grays Harbor Sheriff’s deputies to identify the two women seen in a convenience store surveillance video released Thursday morning from the night 10-year-old Lindsey Baum disappeared. In fact, one of the women walked into a police station and said “that’s me.” Undersheriff Rick Scott told the Aberdeen Daily World that appointments have been scheduled to talk to both women, who are apparently related and from the McCleary area. There are no promises that they may have any information that could lead them to Lindsey Baum, but Scott said every bit of information helps create the story of what happened the night of June 26, 2009, when she disappeared. The video is from 9:20 p.m. on that night. Baum was last seen about five minutes earlier nearby. The video clip from inside Mike’s Market in McCleary lasts just 49 seconds. The first half of the video shows a man at the counter of the store, who police said had told detectives he was “nowhere near McCleary” when Baum disappeared. In October, detectives served a search warrant, searching the man’s house and business. Scott said detectives are still following leads and says the man is not a suspect, just part of the web of clues and findings investigators are putting together. The video shows that the women spoke to the man in the convenience store and detectives want to know what they spoke about and what they might have seen when they left the store. As it happens, Scott said that detectives had spoken to one of the women when they canvassed the city of McCleary during an earlier visit. But because they just had a statement, and no photo attached to that statement, they didn’t know it was her. The paper says the other woman has not been interviewed by investigators before. Law enforcement asks anyone who might have any information about the whereabouts of Lindsey Baum to come forward with tips.
